Lewiston 05/10/2008

Talk about clearing the cobwebs.  Well the only person that did well was Josh, #18.  He got second place overall in the Figure-8 race in the Full-Size division.  No mini-pickups from the team this year.

Compact news: Kathy, one of our co-founders came out of retirement to derby again in the compact division.  2007 Defending champion, Annette in #42 derbied to the end.  Zach and Tyler's car had problems due to the Figure-8 races and were unable to derby.

Full-Size news: Josh and Jay made it through their heat derbies to the finals.

2007

Lewiston 06/16/2007

Perfect weather since this was a June derby.  Overcast clouds and temperatures in the 70’s.  One funny thing happened at this derby, a long time rival team we used to go against changed their name to Dog Pound or Bad Dog Racing (forgot which).  Well we ended up adopting one of the “Dogs” since his team did not want to help him with his vehicle, so Crownn Racing helped him fix up his truck and got it through tech inspection.  We will even help our rivals.

On to the results-

For the Figure-8 races, Annette made it to the finals and Chris made it to the truck finals.

For the Derbies-

Compacts: Two of the three compacts made it to the derby.  Finally, after nine years, Annette (#42) got first place in the compact division.  Congrats to Annette!

Pickups:  Chris got fourth in his derby.

Full-Size:

Heat #1- Ray (#500) got fifth in his heat which got him into the finals.

Heat #2- Jay (#2702) got fourth in his heat which got him into the finals but his steering column fell apart.

Finals – Ray got fifth in the finals after putting up a great fight.

2006

Lewiston 08/12/2006 pics and movies- By far the lowest turnout for the team, only two cars arrived, Ray in his #500 Ford Escort and Jay in his #2702 Cadillac.

Due to harvest, medical problems and family deaths, the full team did not show up.

Figure-8 racing:  Neither car made it to the finals.

Demolition Derby:

Full-Size Division Heat #2:  Jay took a driver’s door hit which rendered his car unable to go on to the finals.  There is film of the hit.

Compact Division: Ray was kicking butt with his Ford Escort, he knocked out a car but they timed him out after 30 seconds.  What is up with that?  He had 60 seconds to make an aggressive hit and they timed him out at 30 seconds?

Lewiston 05/13/06 pics and movies- This Lewiston will be remembered for the antics that occurred.  Congrats go to Josh Pfaff for his first place victory in the mini-pickups.  Congrats for Tyler, the rookie, on getting a place for “Best of Show” and his first time out.  We fielded five compacts, one mini-pickup and two full-size cars.  For the first time, the number of compacts exceeded the number of full-size cars at the derby.  This was a high attendance event for the derby.

Figure-8 racing:

Compacts- Out of the three heats, Zack and B.J. made it to the finals.  Zack rolled his Escort and managed to get three rounds of applause from the crowd (what a ham).

Mini-pickups- Josh, a new member of the team with past derby experience got second place on his race.

Full-size- Neither Jay or Ray managed to place in their races.

Demolition Derby:

First heat Full-size – Jay in his Cadillac got third and went into the finals.

Second Heat Full-size – Ray had the smallest V-8 we have ever seen.  Unfortunately Ray did not make it to the finals.

Mini-pickups – Josh got first place in the pickups, way to go!

Compacts – Annette #42, Randy #999, Zack #21, B.J #13, and Tyler #24 went out to fight.   #999 got third and #21 got fourth.  A controversial end to the derby, #33 was using pinning and a number of driver’s door shots to win.A fight almost broke out in the arena.

Full-size Final derby- Jay, after taking a steam bath from a head on hit, he received 4th place.

2005

Lewiston 10/01/05 pics- This derby was moved since the rainout date of June was too close to the August race. This was the second wettest and coldest race we have ever attended. We managed to bring four compacts, one pickup and one full-size car. #2702 was unable to attend due to transmission problems. This was another surprise derby this year.
Figure-8 races: In the compacts, Zack and Annette both made it into the finals.
In the pickups, Randy got second place in the final race.
Derby:
Full-Size heat #1- Ray Davis and his Cadillac made three impressive kills, but was unable to make to finals since his tires were off and he got timed out.
Full-Size heat #2- Even though there were only enough cars for two heats, heat #2 was one of the hardest hitting Lewiston Derbies we have ever seen.
Mini-Pickup Derby- Randy made it half way through the derby and his glasses broke. He was unable to see so he pulled his flag.
Compact Derby- This was one to see. We fielded two veterans, Annette a trophy winner everytime she derbies in the #42 Toyota and B.J. a past compact champion who normally drives in the pickup division in the #13 Tempo. Also fielded were two rookies: Zack Zaring who got second last June in his first derby in the #21 Toyota and Brian Brumely in his first race in the #29 Mustang.
The first to be eliminated was Zack when he took a corner shot in his blindspot. The second to be eliminated was B.J. and third was Annette. In the end there were only two cars left; Brian and the #33 car. They traded hits for a few minutes but in the end the #33 car won. Congrats to Brian for getting second place his first time out, that is most impressive.
Our "First-Timer Program" must be working since we have had two rookie second place finishers this year.

Lewiston 06/18/05 pics- Well the first Lewiston Smash Bash of the year is over.  It was scheduled for May 14th, but the weather had other plans; mainly pounding rain.  The derby was rescheduled for June 18th.  Crownn Racing brought seven vehicles: 3 compacts, 2 mini-pickups and 2 full-size cars.  We had a lot of good competition, surprises, and above all, a lot of fun.
We will go first to the Figure 8 races:
Compact division:  Annette got first in her heat race so that sent her into the finals and rookie driver Zack got second in his race which sent him into the finals as well.  As for the finals, Zack got second place.  Congrats to him.
Mini-Pickup division: Lots of fun to watch.
Full-Size division:  In a comical figure-8 race, Jay got first, which got him sent to the finals in which he got third.
As for the derby itself:
Compact division- Annette got third place and a surprising second place for Zack (as it was his first time out).
Mini-Pickup Division:
Full-Size Division:  Two Crownn Racing cars were in the third heat, Ray driving #500 and Jay driving #2702.  It was an “out-of-towners” vs. “locals” in this derby heat, and at the end both made it to the finals.  A lot of damage was sustained in that heat.  Only #2702 would make it to the finals, and even that was just barely. This Lewiston derby was a late, but exciting start to the season.  We congratulate Zack on his second place win, and I am sure he will get the title “Crownn Racing Rookie of the Year”.
See you guys at the August Lewiston Derby!  (Aug. 13th).

2004
Lewiston 08/14/04 pics- August is always a smaller turnout for the team.  We fielded only five vehicles this time- three compacts, one truck and one full-size.  We were extra careful this time with the security of our vehicles since the sabotage of the radiator hoses on our vehicles last May.  Whoever tampered with our vehicles and we will find you, we will cut your nuts off.
Anyway, back to the results:  In the figure 8 races, Jay got first in his heat and Annette got second which got them into the finals.  In the demolition derby, Ray was unable to derby his new #500 full-size car due to damage in the figure 8 race. Doug, in his #31 truck, managed to get third place in the mini-pickup division.  As for the compacts, Annette, Jay and Wendy went out to fight.  One comical moment was a new kid at the start who eliminated himself by driving across the arena at full speed and hung himself up over the logs.  At the end there were only four cars left: #3, #33, #42 and #2702.  Annette in #42 battled it out with #3 and Jay in #2702 battled it out with #33.  At the end, Jay got first and Annette got third.  Our second place streak is broken.

River City Rod Run 07/11/04 pics- We did not have time to build cars for this derby due to our losses in Dayton.  It was a nice day for a derby with overcast weather in July.  Only eleven cars showed up to this derby, which paid $2000 for first place.  Apparently they turned away cars because they did not send in their forms in time.  The promoter should of let them in so multiple heats would occur.  This was the shortest derby I have ever seen.  They did not have enough cars to have multiple heats so the promoter had one final round.  The car that started dishing out the kills first went to the orange station wagon #68.  This guy was the one that got second last year to a sandbagger (who was not there this time) and he had vengeance on the mind.  Got a give that guy the Mad-Dog award for that.  Car #327 committed two driver’s door hits.  The ref on my side of the “arena” called him for it but was overruled by the chief ref/announcer.  What was that about?  The crowd was not pleased with the call when it was overruled.  Two fires occurred which caused the derby to be stopped but nothing serious and it resumed.  In the end, car #72 driven by Jim Westlake won the derby.  Congrats to Westlake on his win.

Dayton All Wheels Weekend 06/20/04 pics- More second places...  The Dayton Derby is split into two parts, no holds barred racing and the derby.  After a three hour delay the derby got started.  In the racing, Jay got second in the drivers race, Sean got second place in the mechanics race and Jenny got second in the powder puff race.  We need to break this second place business this year.  On to the derby- 20 cars showed up, over double of what appeared last All Wheels Weekend Derby.  #04 was unable to derby due to engine trouble but #999 and #391 managed to derby.  This year two Imperials came, not from Moses Lake but from Walla Walla and as usual were doing a lot of damage.  #999 took many hits but dished out its share of damage.  #391 fought to the very end and got fifth place.  There is not much left of #391 so it will be retired.  One small note on an improvement to the derby, don't use so much water in the arena.

Lewiston 05/08/04 pics- Second place, second place, second place.... A lot of second places to this derby.  We had a few setbacks in the construction of the vehicles so we did not have time to test them and this would come to plague us later.  We only fielded 8 cars this time.  Since so many vehicles showed up to Lewiston, the Figure-8 race only took the first place car of each heat instead of the usual first and second.  Brian, Jay, Ray and Kathy got second in their heats but did not go on to the finals.
As for the derbies, only one person got a place, Annette got second place in the compact derby.
We had some technical problems, so some of the vehicles were unable to derby.  Other news at the derby- We had an honorary member this derby, Jim "the Badmann" Bise, who we went against last year in Dayton was here with his New Yorker.  He had a bad call against him when he was pushed into the driver's door of another car which he was black-flagged.  The same thing happened to Joey a few years ago.  We were also a victim of a cowardly attack, someone snuck up to some our vehicles in the pit area and cut the radiator hoses.

2003
Dayton 09/07/03 pics- This Dayton\Columbia County Fair race was a lot better organized then the one last year.  A promoter from Walla Walla put on the event and the timetable was tight.  Only two people were ejected due to beer and no fights in the pits occurred which is extraordinary.  One comment for the officials on the sides, get red flags, the driver's can't hear but they can see the red flag to stop when a fire occurs.
A lot of second places and a controversial end to the derby.  Cars 999, 04, 539(race only) and 391 arrived.  After a complete rebuild of 391's engine, the transmission of the "Evil LTD" took a dump and was unable to go reverse.  Pretty much everyone got second place in their races (driver's, mechanic's and powder puff's).
The derby consisted of 19 cars, a drop from last year's 27.  The weather was overcast until the derby started, then it started to rain and the track was really muddy especially since they watered it down before the derby.  This year a tag team of Imperials came up from Moses Lake and were doing a lot of damage.  Randy made it halfway through the derby in "Re-Run" (04) and pulled his stick.  Kathy was slugging it out with everyone, tangled with the first Imperial, it was pinned by another car and by then it was only two cars left, Kathy's Cadillac (999) and the second Imperial.
The Imperial's stick was broken, the equivalent of pulling the stick, but he kept of going and got the last hit.  The race was called, both cars were inspected and the final result was the Imperial got first and Kathy got second.  Congrats to Kathy on her second place win.

Lewiston 08/09/03 pics- We did pretty good.  We had only seven vehicles this time but it seems like we came back with a vengeance after the last Lewiston race.  Chris driving F-16 "Fugly", got first place in the full-size figure 8 heat, went on the finals and got third place.  In the full-size derby, Chris placed in the heat and made it to the final derby.  Lewiston is a very tough derby with dynamic competitors, considering this is his first time, Chris honored the team and the memory of Joey.  "He drove it like he stole it".
In the Compact Truck division derby, Randy got second place and BJ got third place.
In the Compact division figure 8 races, Ray got first in his heat and Jay got second in his heat so both went on to the finals and Ray got second place in the finals.  As for the compact derby, the Crownn Racing cars came out like angry hornets (just like in that truck of yours Ray, just joking) and started eliminating other cars.  In the end Ray got second, Jay got third and Annette got fourth out of seventeen cars.
We are back.

River City Rod Run 07/13/03 pics- We did not go up there to derby but to watch how our northern competition is on their home turf.  This was the first asphalt derby we have ever seen and we like it.  There were only fourteen cars that showed up.  We were surprised by this since the prize money was $2000, the population of the CDA/Spokane metro area is over half a million people, the Lewiston race is only $1500 prize money and the population is around 30,000 but gets over 80-100 vehicles a derby.
Any way there were a lot of good hits and action.  There were two heats with seven cars in each.  They said the top three cars of each heat went on to the finals, but at the finals, they allowed all thirteen cars (one guy got knocked out and had to go to the hospital) to participate in the final.
This was the first time we have seen an Imperial in a derby in a couple years, mostly because the local derbies outlaw them.  The Imperial had it's butt kicked as the other cars ripped it to pieces.  Lots of action, hard hits, drive shafts flying and a few driver's door hits.  I have to say that the refs did a great job at enforcing the rules and disqualified one guy for a driver's door hit.
The final derby was pretty good until the end. At the end there were three cars: #62, #66 and #80.  #62 soon died from a hit from #66 but the real insult was a perfectly fine #80 sitting in the corner sandbagging.  The orange thunderbird, number #80 pummeled the #66 car and won the $2000.  When he was announced as the winner, the crowd starting booing and yelling "sandbagger".  Lucky for #80 that they were serving beer in plastic bottles and not glass.  That is why #80, Kevin Corbin, is "Sandbagger of the Month".
Crownn Racing will be going north in the future and we don't like sandbaggers

Dayton 06/14/03 pics- Not a banner day for Crownn Racing.  Morale was down due to the loss of one of our own.  It seems the locals learned a lesson from the last time we came to town by using Cadillac's this time.  #04 got third place finishes in the driver's race, mechanic's race and powder puff race.  #999 got hit many times during the race rendering it impossible to derby.  #391 broke a timing chain during a collision in the race so it was impossible for it to derby (Jay was not happy).  During the derby #04 got knocked out but the real insult to injury was the championship car nailed Randy in the driver's door when his flag was already pulled!

Lewiston 05/10/03 pics- We brought down 40 people, 12 vehicles, five compacts, five mini pickups and two full-size cars.  We originally wanted to bring 13 vehicles in honor of the thirteen years Randy and Kathy (our founders) have been racing but because of problems we only brought 12. It was a site to see the fleet of 12 Crownn Racing vehicles and the sea of "black shirts" (our new team shirts) at the driver's meeting.  OK on to the results, BJ placed in the best of show event, first in the figure 8 race and first in the mini pickup derby.  Congrats go to BJ!.  Joey, in the "Fugly",  made it to the final derby but got third overall.  Annette got first in her heat made it to the finals in the figure 8's competition.

Dayton  06/30/02 pics.  Four out of the six trophies went to Crownn Racing.  We came in there like the Red Army and stomped everyone.
