2702 Building Log
By request from emails, I will show how a derby car is
built. This car is a four door 1973 Cadillac Sedan Deville. I
bought this car off of the “Baddman” out of Moses Lake WA.
Looks like the Baddman was going to use this for a derby
but then stopped. Part of the inside has been stripped; the windows and
windshield have been removed.
Just a tip- It is a
pain to remove the windshield. There are two schools of thought on removing
them: 1. Bash it or 2. remove in one piece. I always go with
removing it in one piece because cleaning up broken glass is a nightmare. Some
people on the team use a wire to cut the sealant around the windshield.
This method works well if you do it on cool day. If you do it on a hot
day, the sealant will be sticky and reseal itself. I like using a
windshield-removing tool, these use to be expensive, I paid $30 for my first
one, and it is now $6 from Harbor Freight and Tool. This tool only takes
ten minutes to remove the windshield.
Another tip to use the day before removing the windshield
is spraying WD-40 on the sealant. It helps break it down.
